Sleepwalking sonMy son is 12. About a month ago he had nightmares due to a fever caused by the flu. He has been sleepwalking every night since. The only nights he hasn't done this is when he stays with a grandparent or with a friend.[about 5 or 6 nights]. When he has these episodes he always says that either he or the house is evil or haunted. His first nightmare was about his room doing evil things. These are the things he was saying when he had the first nightmare. Is it possible he is doing this because of that first nightmare and is afraid of our house? Having him sleep in a different room hasn't helped. The only thing that has worked with any success is sleeping with him.
Re: Sleepwalking sonUsually sleep walking and nightmares are self limited and don't need treatment. The patient needs to be in a safe environment to prevent injury to themselves. Proper sleep habits is important. If this is a persistant problem, psychological stressors may be playing a role. An evaluation by your son's pediatrician would be appropriate as these symptoms may be the result of stress.
