There are no 'legal' rights. Just count yourself lucky that the problem was found prior to his being put somewhere he would be shot at if he walked anywhere unsafe. Unfortunately sleepwalking endangers a soldier's entire unit. As such, there are no 'safe' places a sleepwalker can be stationed at. If a sleepwalker were to leave his/her room and act out his/her dream, the soldier would be in danger, and additionally, the military would be held liable. On the plus note, it should be an 'uncharacterized' discharge (that is what I was stuck with when I was discharged from the Marines only they labelled it functional enuresis - another component of my sleep disorder - I think that is only because the other recruits weren't telling the drill instructors some of the other stuff I was apparently doing but didn't know about. I found out that stuff from them later.). That uncharacterized label shouldn't affect your kid detrimentally in regards to future work resumes/etc. However, I am sorry but the military is out. Hope this helps.
