It is often a sleep partner who alerts the sleepwalker to his or her behavior. Some sleepwalkers sense that they may be walking at night, but aren't certain. In some cases, sleepwalkers claim that their suspicions were confirmed by the presence of mysterious bruises on their arms or legs that result from collision with furniture and walls.

An important thing to keep in mind with safety measures regarding sleepwalking is to block access to docks, esp. when visiting. A Boy Scout camp (Parsons) that I have attended used to have a cabin at the end of a lengthy dock that troops could spend the night in. Interesting article...the main problem i have is that nobody studies this because most people stop sleepwalking in their teens. I'm a 40 male who has been sleepwalking since i was five or so.I sleepwalk 6-7 nights a week...I've never experienced a good nights sleep.
Here's a list of some of the things i've done: and of who i've seen for help:
smashed windows and jumped thru Stanford Sleep Center- twice
driven cars- twice Sutter Sleep Center
punched girlfriends & spouse Kaiser
pulled gilrfriends\ spouse out of bed by their ankles Hypnosis
run out of homes and up the street brainwave meridian therapy
ran across a field of thorns in barefeet and across the Baja 1000 course Homeopathy
got in a fight
broke lamps, walls, stereo,
jump off a second floor deck and countless cuts and bruises mainly on my hands and feet.
I am usually the most active an hour after bedtime until around 4 am.
And sometimes i wonder why I don't have alot of energy
